What we are looking for
A Production Technician Supervisor to ensure the timely delivery of graded products to the packhouse and all Grader customers, meeting the required quality and size standards in accordance with the quality framework. Oversee the operation and maintenance of the grading facility’s mechanical and software components, as well as managing staff and related processes. Accurately report crop information to the wider business. Take ownership and responsibility for optimizing grader performance, ensuring efficient operation with minimal downtime while adhering to safety standards. Act as the liaison between departments to streamline workflows and improve coordination.
The position
- Manage the efficient operation of the NIR Grader as the primary focus, while overseeing Grader 1 and Grader 2 when necessary.
- Conduct daily ZOHO checks, investigating and resolving incomplete actions.
- Serve as the first point of contact for equipment breakdowns, working closely with the engineering team to resolve issues.
- Perform root cause analysis for breakdowns and develop action plans.
- Collaborate with the engineering department for ongoing equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Calibrate Q-EYE cameras to ensure grading accuracy and maintain NIR cups by washing and replacing damaged ones as needed.
- Identify and implement improvements in the grading process.
- Coordinate with other departments to address challenges and optimize workflows.
- Utilize performance data (e.g., line performance and downtime information) to motivate and enhance team performance.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization at the end of production, ensuring all products are correctly labeled and stored.
- Ensure all staff are properly trained in their designated production areas, working efficiently and adhering to Health & Safety regulations.
- Regularly collect samples to improve the QEF neural network database, thereby increasing neural network accuracy.
- Maintain accurate and complete training records for all supervised employees, conducting competency assessments when necessary.
- Act as the main point of contact for communication between shifts, both verbally and in writing.
- Positively motivate and encourage team members, reporting absences to the Grader Operations Supervisor and completing return-to-work forms promptly.
- Support the Grader Operations Supervisor in maintaining high product quality from the grader.
- Monitor grading line productivity, ensuring operational efficiency, and escalate issues if targets are not met.
- Take ownership of product quality by conducting quality control inspections and continuously monitoring grading performance.
- Ensure graded products meet internal quality standards for supply to the packhouse or processing facility.
- Communicate quality issues clearly with internal departments, facilitating prompt corrective action.
- Ensure proper use of the Linkfresh computer system by all staff.
- Finalize orders and present information to the gatehouse/intake admin on the same day production is completed.
- Analyse data to assist with grower output reports, labour cost analysis, and throughput evaluation.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in grading facilities, following the “clean as you go” policy.
- Perform duties to a high standard, implementing quality assurance and improvement practices consistently.
- Ensure a consistent supply to the packhouse, gathering information through stock meetings to meet delivery and quality expectations.
- Monitor output against the grading plan, reporting deviations and updating production records accurately.
